Distributing Calories

By HappySkinnyGirl

How do you distribute calories and why it’s important to distribute it throughout the day? We know that we should eat often, 5-6 times a day to keep metabolism going. If you don’t do it right you may end up getting hungry or having difficulty losing fat. Also, all calories is not created equal. I didn’t understand the whole metabolism things until two weeks ago. Now I eat often as much as 8 -10 times a day and my body seems to be digesting food better.

When you eat a high caloric meal your digestive track system may not be able to burn the most of the calories, and may get stored as fat. That’s why it’s better to eat smaller portions to burn it more efficiently. It may also depends on what kind of calories you eat, fruits and vegetables help you greatly with the digesting process.

For example, a female who’s on 1500 calories may divide like this, 400 calories per meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She then has 300 calories left for mid-meal snacks, divide it further, 100 calories/snack. This person may get hungry because she is used to eat more than 400 calories for the main meal and the 100 calories snack is too little to feel satisfied. It may be better to distribute it almost equally.

How many calories do you need? There are few mathematical formulas to figure out your daily caloric intake but using this calorie calculator is easier.

    Nice calculator!

I eat around 5 meals a day, occasionally 6… but almost always go a little heavier on calories for the first two meals. I then try to eat a little lighter for dinner. My meals run 450-350 calories though, as I am heavier. It’s a lot of food!

Getting used to that was hard at first, but now I am often hungry for my next meal.

First time visitor to your site – nice work!

I used to set an alarm on my watch to remind me to eat 5-6 times a day. It took about a month until I did not need the alarm anymore – now it is second nature.

    The calorie counter is cool.

It is interesting how caloric intake and metabolism affect each other isn’t it? I have a pretty high metabolism, and if I don’t enough, I actually start gaining weight. Thanks for the great link to the calculator!

I try to eat 5 or 6 meals a day. However, I could not really do it. I eat generally 3 meals a day plus snacks in between. I find eating a light meal 3 times a day worked okay for me since eating 6 times a day made me full. I may try again to go to 5 or 6 meals a day. I may just need to lighten up the meals.
